World Mental Health Day 2022

The 2022 theme of Making Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority is an opportunity for people with mental health conditions, advocates, governments, employers, employees and other stakeholders to come together to recognize progress in this field and to be vocal about what we need to do to ensure mental health and well-being becomes a global priority for all.

World Mental Health Day gives us an opportunity to reconnect and revitalize our efforts to improve our mental wellbeing collectively. Here are 10 things you can do strengthen your own positive mental health:

Talk to someone.
Sharing your feelings with a family member, friend, or counselor can make them feel more manageable.

Write it down.
Journaling is a great way to understand what is happening in your mind and body.

Breathe.
Simply pausing to take a few deep breathes can have a profound positive impact on your mood or stress level.

Sleep.
Getting enough sleep and focusing on quality sleep is an easy way to boost your mental health.

Get outside.
Take a walk, play with your dog, or do another activity outside each day.

Practice a hobby.
Whether it’s a playing a musical instrument, working on an art project, or cooking a meal, practicing a hobby you enjoy is good for your mental health.

Eat healthy food.
Your body and mind are intimately connected. Eating well can help you to build positive mental health.

Do a digital detox.
Time spent in front of a screen can cause eye strain, headaches, and be detrimental to mental health. Take a break from phones, computers, and TVs every so often.

Organize.
When the space around you is calm and orderly it can help you to feel calm and in control too.

Accept what you can’t control.
Sometimes you will practice all of the things on this list and still feel down or overwhelmed. That’s okay. Let yourself feel those emotions and know that you can make tomorrow better.
